February 2013 Donate items for Lutheran World Relief Kits to help people in need Around the world, people suffer each day because of lack of basic hygiene. In refugee camps and in the world’s poorest communities, a few simple items can mean the difference between sickness and health, life and death. This Lenten season, our congregation is taking part in LWR’s Baskets of Promise appeal. Each week in Lent, we’ll collect items to form LWR Personal Care Kits that help impoverished people stay healthy in life’s most challenging situations. The collection schedule is listed below and please check the bulletin each week for the collection reminder. If you have any questions, please contact [Julia C. The collection schedule will be: February 17: Bar of Soap (4 to 5 oz. any brand in original wrapping) February 24: Bath Towel (light weight, maximum 52” to 27”, dark color recommended) March 03: Toothbrush (adult size, in original packaging) March 10: Comb March 17: Nail Clippers (metal, attached file optional) March 24: (Palm Sunday) Bar of Soap No tooth paste is needed because LWR has received a huge donation from a partner company. Our goal is to complete 25 baskets. Help us to surpass our goal.

CASSEROLES FOR CAMILLUS HOUSE: We will be restarting our Casseroles for Camillus House on Saturday, February 23rd sponsored by the Social Ministry committee. Anyone interested in joining us for “Chop and Talk” is invited. We will meet at St. Mark’s at 10 am. If you Chop but don’t talk we need you, if you Talk but do not Chop much like me we still need you. We also need donations to help us purchase the ingredients. AnGedacht: Heute, wenn ihr seine Stimme hört, so verstocket eure Herzen nicht. (Hebräer 3,15) Wie war das gleich noch mal, damals in der Wüste, auf dem Weg in die Freiheit? Gott meldet sich zu Wort: „Immer irren sie im Herzen. Aber sie verstanden meine Wege nicht.“ Und auch von „Verbitterung“ der Menschen ist in diesem Abschnitt die Rede. Und schließlich davon, dass Gott sein Volk zu seiner Ruhe (Sabbat) bringen will. Die Gemeinde ist müde geworden. Sie ist unsicher, alle einstige Gewissheit ist dahin, die Gemeinschaft ist brüchig geworden. „Verbindlichkeit ja, aber nicht von mir.“ Und sie sind verbittert, und das ist gefährlich, denn wer verbittert ist, der hasst. Die Herzen verstocken. Trotzig sein. Das kindliche und auch kindische „Nun gerade nicht“. Da kommt man nicht ohne fremde Hilfe wieder heraus. „Als es mir wehe tat im Herzen und mich stach in den Nieren, da war ich wie ein Tier vor dir und wusste nichts“ (Ps 73, 21f). Da braucht es einen sortierenden Blick von außen. Trotz bedeutet, auf sich selbst zu bestehen; wichtige und gute Erfahrungen zu haben, aber eben darauf zu bestehen. Ist es nicht komisch: Alle Menschen wollen immerzu offen sein? Geradezu reflexartig tragen wir es mit viel Anstrengung und gutem Willen vor uns her, wir wollen offen sein und uns geht die Luft dabei aus. Gut, zur Offenheit gibt es keine Alternative. Sind wir es auch? Denn wir sind oft vernagelt, dass von der ursprünglichen Offenheit nichts mehr da ist. Das ist nicht gleich zerstörerisch, denn Gott steht bereit, uns wieder ins Weite zu führen. Schlimm wird es nur, wenn wir auf unsere Verwirrung auch noch stolz sind, ein typisches Zeichen der postmodernen Gesellschaft. Gott meint damit jedoch nicht: Du musst nur dazu stehen. Sondern eher: Vertraue mir, ich meine es mit meinen Wegen gut, frag nach mir, und ich werde mich finden lassen. Die Antwort bist nicht du selbst, meint Ihr Pfarrer Frank Kopania
